This week on Carlos @ 18: a tribute to the tango. Argentinian composer Osvaldo Golijov borrowed the title Last Round from a short story about boxing by novelist Julio Cortázar – a metaphor for a “one last chance” fight in life. The first movement captures the eroticism and danger of tango. The tone and tempo then shift in the second movement to reflect its role as an homage to Buenos Aires. Enjoy this incredibly moving and well-composed piece.
