ABOUT
With a foundational commitment to making music education accessible to all, the Metropolitan Youth Symphony educates, develops and promotes 500 young musicians of all ages and levels of experience in a typical year. MYS is one of the nation’s largest youth orchestra programs, with students from 10 counties participating in 13 orchestral, string, band, percussion, and jazz ensembles. By providing theory classes, instrumental coaching in small groups, and opportunities to collaborate with performers across artistic disciplines, MYS seeks to develop the whole musician.
MYS provides a thriving tuition-free beginning strings program, as well as tuition assistance, loaner instruments, and fifteen concerts at Title 1 schools throughout Oregon and SW Washington. MYS ensembles reflect a broad diversity of cultures and life experiences while fostering a tight-knit community through collaboration, peer support, and self-expression. In response to rapid growth in the metropolitan area, MYS has established a satellite ensemble program in Hillsboro. Learn more at playmys.org.
This season the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra celebrates 45 years of providing symphonic music to the community. Its success is due to the talent and commitment of the early conductors and musicians who provided its foundation. Learn more at vancouversymphony.org.
