Catalyst Quartet (CMNW) & Classical Up Close
April 13, 2023: Host Christa Wessel welcomes Catalyst Quartet and Classical Up Close to the Roger O. Doyle performance studio.
The Catalyst Quartet is presented by our friends at Chamber Music Northwest and will preview their upcoming series Remarkable Women Composers, including music by Fanny Mendelssohn, Jessie Montgomery, Joan Tower, and Angélica Negrón. Classical Up Close is celebrating their 10th Anniversary with an astounding festival of concerts designed by musicians of the Oregon Symphony.
ABOUT
Hailed by The New York Times as “invariably energetic and finely burnished…playing with earthy vigor,” the Grammy Award-winning Catalyst Quartet was founded by the internationally acclaimed Sphinx Organization, which is dedicated to transforming lives through the power of diversity in the arts. Catalyst combines a serious commitment to diversity, education, and contemporary works with virtuosic playing “reminiscent of great quartets of the past such as the Guarneri and Budapest” (Richmond Times).

Classical Up Close is a chamber music festival created and produced by members of the Oregon Symphony and friends. Their mission is to bring high quality, live classical music to as many people as possible. They travel to neighborhoods all around the Portland metro area, holding concerts outside of the usual downtown concert hall, and every performance is free.
