The following is PJ’s 2023 bio:
PJ, a Portland native, began playing the French horn in fifth grade. He joined the Portland Youth Wind Ensemble as an eighth grader, followed by the Portland Youth Conservatory Orchestra as a high school freshman and finally the Portland Youth Philharmonic as Principal Horn from his sophomore to senior years. He went on to Santa Clara University in 2016 where he majored in Economics and minored in Music, playing with the University Orchestra all four years. With the Santa Clara University Orchestra, he had the chance to perform the First Horn Concerto by Richard Strauss as well as a horn concerto written by music director John Kennedy. After graduating college, PJ went on to work in data analytics for a few years before returning to school. He will be finishing his MBA at UC Berkeley next May. He will be dusting off his horn after a four-year break to play with the alumni orchestra for PYP’s Concert-at-Christmas on December 26th, 2023 to celebrate their 100 year anniversary. He looks forward to getting back to playing in the years to come!
