On Deck with Portland Summer Percussion Academy

In this episode of “On Deck” we spend a day at the Portland Summer Percussion Academy, a week-long summer camp for teenage percussionists. The camp takes place at Lewis & Clark College, and provides hands-on clinics with renowned musicians such as Pius Cheung (marimba professor at University of Oregon) and Niel Deponte (principal percussionist of the Oregon Symphony.)

Students learn classical percussion instruments (snare, triangle, cymbals, etc), as well as gamelan and hand-drumming.
