On Deck with Henry Talbott & Katie Palka

Robert McBride guest hosts this episode of “On Deck”: he talks with two of the teenagers participating in Fear No Music’s Young Composer Project: Katie Palka and Henry Talbott.
Katie’s composition (“Ballad of the Time Guardian”) is inspired by Big Stump: a 2000 year old redwood tree stump in Waldport, Oregon. Henry’s composition (“Space Opera Miniatures”) is his take on science fiction movies and their soundtracks.
Open to composers in grades 6-12, the “YCP” provides students with an opportunity to experiment and develop a composition while having professional musicians at their disposal. Fear No Music provides workshops throughout the school year for Young Composers Project participants and presents the completed compositions to the public each spring.
