In this new adaptation with script by Claire Robertson-Preis and Libretto by Robertson-Preis, Abigail Krawson, and Madeline Ross, the frivolity and bubbling spirit of the original opera remains, along with the tangled web of characters and desires. Renegade Opera’s adaptation introduces some modern moral dilemmas into the mix, with discussion of climate, wealth inequality, the justice system, and the role of art in protest.
