Remembering Travis Hatton
The All Classical Portland team is deeply saddened to learn of the sudden passing of local conductor Travis Hatton. He was an exceptional musician and educator and conducted the Beaverton Symphony Orchestra, the Sunnyside Symphony Orchestra, the Salem Philharmonia Orchestra, and more.
Those who knew him will always remember him as an amazing conductor and human, always full of music and optimism. He will be missed. Our hearts and thoughts go out to Travis’s family, friends, and all of the musicians who have played under his leadership.

Travis Hatton’s versatile conducting career placed him on the podium of a broad spectrum of musical groups in Europe and the United States. His wide interests led him to work with opera companies, orchestras, chamber groups, choruses and bands. He participated in many conducting programs and workshops including The Aspen Conducting Institute and The Festival at Sandpoint. His teachers and instructors included Gunther Schuller, Carl St. Clair, Murray Sidlin, Harold Faurberman, Piero Bellugi, and Leonard Atherton.
He was called “A very gifted young conductor” by the late Georg Tintner.
