Cyrus Ngan is 15 years old and a rising sophomore at Clackamas High School. He has played piano for as long as he can remember, and started playing cello four years ago.
In this episode of “On Deck,” Cyrus speaks with Raúl Gómez-Rojas about his musical pursuits, as well as his passion for competitive swimming and tennis. “Music has been a key element in my life. It helps me to sharpen my mind, drives me in the pool & on the court, and soothes my soul. Music has also taught me about life; the importance & rewards of being disciplined, how I have to let go of things I cannot control, and also how I can add a kick of my own personality into my works.”
Cyrus also loves math, and finds parallels between his academic interests, his participation is sports, and his experience performing music. In his spare time, he enjoys creating short films, reading, writing and playing duets with her younger sister Candance, who plays piano and viola.
